Murrysville Area Watershed Association Receives $70,000 Grant from Richard King
Mellon Foundation to Advance Water Quality and Environmental Education

Murrysville, PA — July 23, 2025 — The Murrysville Area Watershed Association (MAWA) is
proud to announce it has received a generous grant of $70,000 from the Richard King
Mellon Foundation to support a comprehensive initiative aimed at enhancing water quality
monitoring, environmental education, and community engagement throughout the region.
The funding, awarded on June 16, 2025, will enable MAWA to:
• Purchase advanced stream monitoring equipment
• Collect and analyze water quality data across local watersheds
• Train watershed stewards to support long-term conservation efforts
• Develop and publish an annual water quality report
• Identify priority areas for restoration and conservation
• Expand environmental education programs to include local schools
• Engage community members through improved outreach and communication
“This grant marks a significant step forward in our mission to protect and restore the health
of our local waterways,” said Jim Morrison, Executive Director of MAWA. “We are deeply
grateful to the Richard King Mellon Foundation for their support and shared commitment to
environmental stewardship and education.”
The initiative will not only strengthen MAWA’s scientific and educational capabilities but
also foster a more informed and involved community dedicated to preserving the region’s
natural resources.
